How old were you when you had your first crush? Who was it? I had my first crush in 7th grade at Standard Junior High. His name was Jet and he was in 8th grade. I was familiar with him prior to meeting him due to the fact that my cousin and his sister were best friends. At the end of my freshman year at North High School, I started dating Jet and we were together for five and a half years.

Did you ever get away with anything as a teen? Is it something your parents still don't know about? On the December 31st of my sophomore year at North High, my friend Michelle and I were stuck at home alone. At some point during that night someone had called us and asked us to come to a party out at the Silo’s and we said we couldn't because we did not have a ride. We then came up with the brilliant idea to take my mother's car while she was on a date and have someone follow us back before she got home. Not sure what the point was for them to follow us back but nevertheless, we arrived back at the house prior to her getting there. It wasn't until my 21st birthday that I decided to fess up and tell her the story of how and when I stole her car at the age of 15.

What was your theme song in junior high? “Call Me” by Blondie. I was always on the dang phone. The funny thing is, if you know me now, you know that I hate talking on the phone. Text me...it's more convenient!

On the other hand, there is nothing better than being in the car with my three kids singing their favorite songs at the tops of our lungs. In my iPod I have anything from ABBA to Lil Wayne.

Name three things you'd have to take with you into space? Hannah, Abby, and Ethan.

Now if you're speaking in terms of material items, that would be: Lip gloss, iPod, and running shoes.

Team Edward or Team Jacob? And why? Jacob. He’s strong, athletic, protective, and yummy.

Makayla Crenshaw

Name: Makayla Crenshaw

Age: 27

Occupation: Stay-at-home-mom

How old were you when you had your first crush? Who was it? I was 12 years old when I had my first crush. His name was Quentin Ames. I remember I had a locket I used to wear around my neck with an over-sized picture of him in it. So all you could really see of his face was his eyes and nose.

Did you ever get away with anything as a teen? Is it something your parents still don't know about? My mom and I were more friends than anything growing up. We had a really open relationship. I remember one night when I was about 13 years old, she was up until wee hours of the morning cleaning. I had a plan to sneak out that night once she went to bed. Well, my friends showed up to pick me up before she went to bed. Needless to say, she caught me. She ended up letting me go anyway. How weird is that?

What was your theme song in junior high? I have no idea.

Were you a tomboy or a girly girl growing up? Has anything changed? I was a tomboy for sure. I have an older brother, so I was always trying to hang with him. I loved the dirt and the excitement of climbing trees. It wasn’t until my 20s that I really grew out of that phase. I’m thankful for that experience now; especially because I have a son of my own and another on the way. I can let them get dirty and not get freaked out.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a pop star. I would do the classic “practice in front of the mirror with a brush as my microphone” routine as a child. I would even go so far as to record music videos off of MTV, and then memorize their routines while I sang their songs. I would even make my own routines up.

Have your tastes changed in music and movies? Absolutely! I have more of an eclectic taste in music now. I can remember my mom and dad listening to certain types of music growing up, and thinking that I didn’t really care for it much. But now I hear those same songs and it takes me back. I’ve always had weird taste in movies so I can’t really say that’s changed much. Although I never really liked Sci-Fi before and now I can actually sit through one and not laugh.

Name three things you'd have to take with you into space? Peanut butter, writing pad, and music.

Most embarrassing thing to happen to you on a date: I must have blocked those moments out. I’m pretty sure I would have had at least one, but I’m drawing a blank here.

Worst pick up line you've ever heard: You’re not the most attractive woman/man in here, but you’re the only one sitting next to me.

When a woman says “maybe,” she really means: No! But she just doesn’t have the heart to say it.

What do you love most about men? Wow. I got nothing. Is that sad or what?

If you found yourself in a box of chocolates, would you be a “Nuts & Chews” or “Cream-Filled?” I like to think I’d be Nuts & Chews.

Whose poster was on your wall when you were growing up? Michael Jackson.

What's the best thing you've ever said to get out of a relationship? “You’re too clingy.”

What's your ideal night out? It’s been so long since I’ve had a night out that I’m not even sure what my ideal night out would be. I think it would be going dancing with my hubby.

If you could go on a date with any celebrity, who would it be and why? Channing Tatum and for purely superficial reasons. He’s a major hottie.

When you shop, do you go in with a list or do you have to look at everything? I have to go with a list, otherwise I get sidetracked and it ends up costing me more money and taking more time.

If you only had one song to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be? I can’t pick just one song, that’s too hard. I’d have to pick an artist, and even that would be difficult to do. I’d choose Tori Amos.

Any tattoos? Does Mom know? No tattoos. I almost got one a few years back, but could really never decide on something I’d be sure to like for the rest of my life.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why? If I could travel anywhere it would be Ireland. I think they have the most beautiful scenery there.

Team Edward or Team Jacob? And why? I’m going to have to go with Team Jacob. Have you seen him? Plus, he’s got that caring, sensitive side to him; along with that 'I could knock you out if had to' thing.

What are your thoughts on romance? Is it dead? I’m not sure it was ever alive. I just think romance takes effort and most people don’t put that much thought into it.

Did you ever get away with anything as a teen? Is it something your parents still don't know about? No. My parents, especially my mom, must have had eyes in the back of their heads. My mom knew everything! In our family, we shared everything...our hopes, our dreams, our aspirations, disappointments, and successes. There were no secrets.

What was your theme song in junior high? “It's My Party,” by Leslie Gore. During the summer, and sometimes during weekends, I would get together with my friends in the neighborhood and have parties in our backyards. We would play Leslie Gore's record and dance the Cha Cha. My mom would serve us homemade ice cream and goodies.

Were you a tomboy or a girly girl growing up? Has anything changed? I played tetherball, basketball, and baseball at school. I am still a tomboy. I love to play racquetball! I climbed trees and fences and rode my bicycle at home as a child and am an avid sports fan.

What did you want to be when you grew up? After I received the Actress of the Year Award for my performance at an Emerson Junior High School play, I decided that I wanted to become an actress. My parents indulged me and permitted me to take piano and singing lessons. Later, I learned my talent was working with children. I became a teacher, a counselor, and a school administrator...and I love it.

Have your tastes changed in music and movies? For the most part, I still enjoy cowboy movies, musicals, dramas, suspense, and Disney films. When I was a kid, I would walk every Sunday to the El Tejon Theatre with my sister and brother, Cookie and R.D.; my girlfriend, Wanda; and my other neighborhood friends and view movies for 25 cents. As far as music is concerned, I remember hearing the soulful sounds of blues and jazz recording artists on my aunt's Motorola. My love of blues and jazz music continues to this day.

Name three things you'd have to take with you into space? A photo album of my family to include my grandchildren, Belle and Gabriel; chocolate candy, preferably See's Bordeaux Milk Chocolates; a great pair of shoes; and a handbag. Okay, I'd take four things.

Whose poster was on your wall when you were growing up? When I grew up, the only pictures on the wall were pictures of family members, both living and deceased. Some of the portraits went way back...to my great-grandparents.

What's the best thing you've ever said to get out of a relationship? “You are a really nice guy but I don't think that I am the right girl for you.”

What's your ideal night out? A night out with my husband, Robert, at the movies...eating buttered popcorn, Milk Duds, and drinking punch out of the same cup.

If you could go on a date with any celebrity, who would it be and why? Denzel. Need I say more?

When you shop, do you go in with a list or do you have to look at everything? When I shop for groceries, I take a list. When I shop for shoes or clothing, I look at everything.

If you only had one song to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be? “Amazing Grace.” What a comforting song of hope.

Any tattoos? Does Mom know? Only my husband knows!

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?

I would travel to Senegambia, Africa, to hear the haunting sounds of the final footsteps of my ancestors before they traveled to America.

Team Edward or Team Jacob? And why? Twilight, Edward Cullen, Bella, and the folks of Forks are a little scary to me.

What are your thoughts on romance? Is it dead? Romance is alive and well with Robert and me. Romance is a lifestyle.

How old were you when you had your first crush? Who was it? My first crush was on my fourth grade teacher, the first male teacher I ever had.

Did you ever get away with anything as a teen? Is it something your parents still don't know about? I got away with a lot of things as a teen that my parents still don’t know about. I also got caught doing many things, so I don’t think my parents could’ve handled finding out about everything.

What was your theme song in junior high? I can’t think of a theme song, but what stands out most from junior high is going to dances and riding motorcycles…a fun few years.

Were you a tomboy or a girly girl growing up? Has anything changed? I was both a tomboy and a girly girl growing up, as I easily shifted into each role as the situation required. As I’m older, and wiser, the tomboy daredevil side of me has subsided somewhat.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a civil engineer and build bridges.

Have your tastes changed in music and movies? Not really. I tend to prefer the '70s and '80s music, but I listen to a variety of styles as an adult. I love all kinds of movies, but find they are never as good as the book if I have read it before I see the movie. I don’t seem to watch as many horror movies as I use to.

Name three things you'd have to take with you into space? I’d take my camera, some music, and a bottle of champagne.

Most embarrassing thing to happen to you on a date: I walked away from the car and the back of my dress was caught in the door. It ripped the back of the dress off and I was humiliated while trying to get back in the car as fast as I could without exposing myself.

What's your favorite video on YouTube? Of the videos I’ve seen, it would have to be the one of the mom who condensed everything a mother would say to her children in 24 hours into 2 minutes and 55 seconds, rapidly spoken to the tune of the William Tell Overture.

When a woman says “maybe,” she really means: She hasn’t made up her mind yet...maybe yes and maybe no.

What do you love most about men? Their good manners and sense of humor.

What do you like least about men? Rude behaviors such as yawning without covering their mouths, belching loudly in public, and making rude comments about women in general.

If you found yourself in a box of chocolates, would you be a “Nuts & Chews” or “Cream-Filled?” I am definitely Nuts & Chews.

Whose poster was on your wall when you were growing up? I had a bulletin board instead of a poster, covered with football paraphernalia. I grew up in a town where everyone was a high school football fanatic.

What's the best thing you've ever said to get out of a relationship? “The relationship needs to work for both of us and I don’t think I’m the right person to compliment all your great qualities.”

What's your idea night out? Dinner and a movie or play.

When you shop, do you go in with a list or do you have to look at everything? I have to maximize my time, so almost always shop with a list. I do have “shopping” trips with an “idea” of what I’m looking for, and then plan the time to look at everything.

Any tattoos? Does Mom know? No tattoos, now or ever. Unfortunately, my mother is more supportive of her granddaughter’s tattoos than she would ever have been if I got one.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why? I have been fortunate to have traveled many places, but still want to go to Africa on a photography safari.

What are your thoughts on romance? Is it dead? I don’t think romance is dead, but it seems to be dying a slow death. In such a fast-paced, multi-tasking society, no one seems to take the time to do romantic things. You have to really work at keeping romance alive, especially with those you love the most!

How old were you when you had your first crush? Who was it? I was 4. It has been a life-long love of Mickey Mouse.

Did you ever get away with anything as a teen? Is it something your parents still don't know about? I never got away with anything. I have a younger brother who ratted me out on everything I did or even thought about doing.

What was your theme song in junior high? The love theme from Romeo and Juliet.

Were you a tomboy or a girly girl growing up? Has anything changed? I was a girly girl. Nothing has changed except maybe the quantity of shoes, jewelry, purses, makeup, etc. It is all about the accessories.

What did you want to be when you grew up? At first, I wanted to be a princess, then a dancer (remember Lawrence Welk—the women all wore pretty dresses) and finally settled on accounting while I was in high school.

Have your tastes changed in music and movies? Not at all. I still like rock 'n' roll and classical music. I still like “chick” flicks.

Name three things you'd have to take with you into space? My Mini Schnauzer Sophie, my Kindle, and my iTouch.

Most embarrassing thing to happen to you on a date: Probably tripping on the dance floor in high school.

What's your favorite video on YouTube? Ron Saylor (our own local magician) performing in Bar Magic Card Trick.

Worst pick up line you've ever heard: Have we met before? You remember don’t you.

When a woman says “maybe,” she really means: Until I get a better offer.

What do you love most about men? Their strength.

What do you like least about men? Their forgetfulness or not paying attention to the small details.

If you found yourself in a box of chocolates, would you be a “Nuts & Chews” or “Cream-Filled?” Cream-filled. Soft and sweet.

What's the best thing you've ever said to get out of a relationship? I need to grow and fulfill my own dreams.

What's your ideal night out? A quiet dinner with my husband at our favorite restaurant.

If you could go on a date with any celebrity, who would it be and why? George Clooney. He’s good looking, funny, intelligent, and has a giving heart.

When you shop, do you go in with a list or do you have to look at everything? If I have the time I look at everything, but in reality I am a list-maker for at least the grocery store.

If you only had one song to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be? “The Mickey Mouse Club” march.

Any tattoos? Does Mom know? None.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why? Asia to visit Disneyland Tokyo and Disneyland Hong Kong.

Team Edward or Team Jacob? And why? Not sure. I don’t follow the Twilight series. Since my youngest son is named Jacob, I’ll pick Team Jacob.

What are your thoughts on romance? Is it dead? Romance should be part of everyone’s daily life. It is not dead! Romance is not just flowers, candy, etc., it’s how you treat one another. Romance is in our thoughts and actions.

How old were you when you had your first crush? Who was it? I was 8 years old and attending Cincinnati Country Day School in Cincinnati, Ohio. I had the maddest crush on Paul Brown. At the time I didn’t realize his family’s local notoriety but years later, I realized that they were the Brown family that owns the Cincinnati Bengals. Boy can I pick ‘em!

Did you ever get away with anything as a teen? Is it something your parents still don't know about? I was 15 or so and was going to boarding school in upstate New York and had invited one of the German exchange students to come home with me for Thanksgiving so she wouldn’t be alone. We missed our connecting flight from Boston to Cincinnati so were supposed to stay in the hotel room that my dad booked for us until the next morning, when he had been able to get us on a flight home. Yeah, right! We went out and walked all over Boston until ungodly hours of the night, stopping at all kinds of restaurants and shops and just milling around. We had so much fun! In retrospect it was probably a little dangerous but we had a blast. My parents still have no clue...

What was your theme song in junior high? “Oh Mickey, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind. Hey Mickey!”

You gotta love Toni Basil sporting a cheerleader outfit as a grown woman! But hey, it worked.

Were you a tomboy or a girly girl growing up? Has anything changed? I was and still am a little bit of both. When I was young, I hosted lavish tea parties, wearing the fanciest dress I could find in my closet. However, the tea parties were being held in the tree fort down by the creek. My mom used to get so mad when I would get my dresses all stained and muddy on my tadpole hunting expeditions that took place after the tea parties. Good times! Today, I love to get all dolled up and go out, but I also love to kick it in my jeans and a T-shirt. And I am definitely not afraid to go camping. I mean real camping though: no campers or cabins or air mattresses. Just a sleeping bag, in a tent, on the ground, in the woods, under the stars. That can be the ultimate relaxation.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a marine biologist. I took a marine biology class in high school and everything about the ocean and that entire eco-system just made crystal clear sense to me and I have had a lifelong love of the ocean. Some people are afraid of the ocean and all the things living or lurking in it but I think it’s fascinating and powerful.

Have your tastes changed in music and movies? Not really. My tastes have always been very diverse so I wouldn’t say that they have changed, they have just grown to include more current pop culture.

Name three things you'd have to take with you into space? My iPod loaded with all my favorite songs and a never-ending battery life, a good book (I love biographies), and my cat, Bob. Bob is awesome and would totally be down for a trip into space!

Most embarrassing thing to happen to you on a date: It wasn’t really me that did the dastardly deed but I would say my most embarrassing date experience was on a double date. We went to a frat party and my friend drank too much and tossed her cookies all over the back seat of my date’s car. I thought I was going to die. I helped him clean out the car and he didn’t seem too upset but I could never bring myself to call him again. That guy was really cute, too! Oh, well...

What's your favorite video on YouTube? I don’t spend too much time on You Tube but I think my favorite would be the “Simon’s Cat” series. If you have a cat, you’ll appreciate them.

Worst pick up line you've ever heard: The ones I have heard are the usual lame ones. “Come here often?” “ What’s your sign?” “I seem to have lost my number, can I have yours?” Seriously? Do guys expect to get anywhere with lines like that? Good luck!

When a woman says “maybe,” she really means: Under very specific and iron-clad circumstances, then there is a remote possibility. I suppose it really depends on what you are saying “maybe” to though...

What do you love most about men? That some men were raised well and therefore, chivalry is not dead! Nothing more handsome than a true gentleman!

What do you like least about men? I think it’s very important to preface by saying that all men are different so this wouldn’t apply to all of them. But I have a hard time when a man doesn’t remember that his significant other isn’t a possession, and that she isn’t in his life to be subservient to him. She is there to be supportive and complementary to him and that should be reciprocated. Behind every great man is an even greater woman. Or maybe we should look at it like Jim Carrey does: “Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes.”

If you found yourself in a box of chocolates, would you be a “Nuts & Chews” or “Cream-Filled?” Definitely Nuts & Chews. I am undeniably nutty and you never know for sure what you’re gonna get with me. I'm usually pretty sweet, though.

Whose poster was on your wall when you were growing up? Duran Duran, Madonna, and Depeche Mode. The '80s rocked, what can I say?

What's your ideal night out? My ideal night out could take place with either my man or my girls. We would start with a nice, but casual, dinner and a few drinks at a bistro or maybe a good Italian eatery. Then off to a kick-ass concert. I love the amazing energy at concerts! Then maybe a few more drinks afterwards to talk about the show!

If you could go on a date with any celebrity, who would it be and why? George Clooney. We actually grew up in neighboring cities so we would probably have some familiar things to talk about. His dad was the local news anchor in Cincinnati and I always thought he was so handsome. George looks just like his dad, so I guess I’ve had a thing for that look for a long time. And hey, what’s not to like about it? Those eyes, that nonchalant charm...and maybe, just maybe, I could take care of some of those traveling wishes by jetting off to his place in Italy. It could happen!

When you shop, do you go in with a list or do you have to look at everything? That would depend on where I am shopping. At the grocery store I have to have a list but that is more of a chore-type shopping trip. Shopping for clothes or shoes or anything else that is fun, I have to fly by the seat of my pants! It is so much more fun that way.

If you only had one song to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be? Absolutely anything from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But, if you are going to be a big meanie and make me choose only one, I would have to say, “Soul To Squeeze.”

Any tattoos? Does Mom know? Yes, I do and no, she does not. I am not sure if she would be more upset by the tattoo or the piercings. Either way, shhh...don’t tell her!

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why? That is a really difficult question. I would start with Turks and Caicos. I don’t know if I would ever come back! It is so beautiful there!

Team Edward or Team Jacob? And why? Who are Edward and Jacob?

What are your thoughts on romance? Is it dead? Bite your tongue! Of course romance isn’t dead! It lives on in the hearts of every hopeless romantic out there. Everyone has their own idea of what is romantic so it may take a little time and effort to find someone who has the same ideas as you do but they are out there somewhere looking for you!

What did you want to be when you grew up? A Soap Opera actress! I use to want to have Ashley Abbott's roll on The Young and the Restless. I swore that was my destiny!

Have your tastes changed in music and movies? In music, no. Movies, yes. They're naughtier! (Just kidding.)

What's your ideal night out? These days, if I can get out to even see a movie, that's pretty ideal.

When you shop, do you go in with a list or do you have to look at everything? No list, I'm all over the place!

If you only had one song to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be? Etta James “At Last.”

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why? Ireland. So I can say, “Not a bloody chance in the pit of Hades!”

Team Edward or Team Jacob? Team Edward.

What are your thoughts on romance? Is it dead? Not dead here. But when I put this question to some of my listeners, they told me it's not dead, just in a coma.
