Rotary Club
The Rotary Club of Bakersfield East kicked off their year with its Annual Pasta Feast. Keynote speaker Jarrod McNaughton, Associate Vice President of San Joaquin Community Hospital, wore traditional Nigerian robes as he spoke not only of his recent volunteer work in Africa but of the local causes the Club would be helping in 2008.
Bakersfield Scottish Gathering & Games
Kilts weren’t the only traditional Scottish garments worn by those attending the Kern County Scottish Society’s 13th annual Gathering & Games. Stramler Park was overflowing with joyful crowds excited to learn about Scotland’s rich history, hear bagpipers play, witness medieval joustings and Celtic dances, taste authentic fare, and practice Highland Archery!
BC Red & White Wine Festival
The wine was overflowing as Bakersfield College hosted their Red & White Festival. Guests and wine enthusiasts socialized over the sounds of live music and savored a great selection of wines from over 50 California wineries—all while sampling a vast selection of unique hors d’oeuvres. Proceeds from this event benefit Bakersfield College culinary arts scholarships.

Evening at the Races
More fun than a mint julep, this exciting evening of horse racing, hosted by MARE, was packed with derby lovers and their hats. Guests were privy to a wonderful champagne reception followed by a scrumptious derby-inspired dinner. Plus, auctions and wagering, to boot. Proceeds from this charitable night benefited the MARE Riding Center.
Junior League Western Fiesta
Who can say no to cowboy boots and tri-tip? Not those who attended Junior League’s annual Western Fiesta! With dinner provided by Icardo Farms and El Adobe Mexican Restaurant, guests sampled scrumptious eats and cool drinks while dancing the night away in the beautiful yard at the Junior League Community Center. Funds raised benefit Junior League projects.
Ballet Folklorico
With dazzling moves, the dancers of Ballet Folklorico “Quetzalli” thrilled audience members who came to see the Veracruz-based group perform at Dore Theatre. The traditional, interactive dances highlighted the rich culture of Mexico and those who attended were treated to the sights and sounds while proceeds went to local Ballet Folklorico dance programs.
Dinner at the Derby
And they’re off! Guests of Youth Connection’s 18th Annual Dinner at the Derby were treated to all the excitement of the Kentucky Derby without leaving Bakersfield! Robin Mangarin and Jim Scott were the perfect track announcers while attendees savored tasty Southern cuisine and bid on lovely silent auction items, with funds going towards toward Youth Connection programs.
Women’s and Girls’ Fund Party
With an elegant luncheon at the Petroleum Club, supporters and members of the Women’s and Girls’ Fund were having a ball as they celebrated the dispersal of grants for local programs that help our community’s women and girls succeed. The delectable meal was second only to the positive and empowering atmosphere surrounding each woman in attendance.
Fox Theater Star Unveiling
Unveiling the first super star in their Walk of Stars program, the Fox Theater Foundation honored San Joaquin Community Hospital for a $50,000 donation and celebrated into the night with hors d’oeuvres and wine. The invitation-only event was attended by all the many sponsors of the Fox Theater Foundation and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Gleaners Spring Luncheon & Fashion Show
The Stockdale Country Club was bustling as it hosted the Gleaners Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show. Models and guests alike were dressed in the latest spring designs, ready to lend their support for those in need in our community. With a tasty lunch, a fashion show, and chances to win raffle prizes, this was another home-run for Gleaners.
CSUB Spring BBQ
As one of the most anticipated events in town each year, the 36th Annual CSUB Spring Barbecue was another knock-out success. With alumni, students, professors, staff, and guests of all ages arriving to taste the scrumptious feast, the campus was packed with supporters who also enjoyed live entertainment. Funds raised go towards CSUB’s athletic scholarship fund.
A Night to Honor our Nurses
With gorgeous white flowers covering every table, and smiles on every guest, this inspiring event, hosted by the Association of California Nurse Leaders, was held in honor of all the men and women that dedicate themselves to the well being and care of others. Guests enjoyed an open bar followed by a delectable meal and the awards ceremony.
Women’s Business Conference
Bringing together smart and successful women from all over the county, the Women’s Business Conference was another sold-out hit! With workshops, lectures, booths, local vendors, and CNN correspondent Soledad O’Brian in attendance, the conference was not only an inspiration to business women in our area, but to everyone who attended.
Channing Gala
Lights, camera, action! To celebrate the visit of stage and screen star Carol Channing to Bakersfield, a VIP reception was held at the Todd Madigan Gallery following a thrilling lecture, performance, and dinner with the Hollywood icon. The reception was overflowing with fans, wine, and hors d’oeuvres, while Channing discussed the importance of funding the arts in our schools.

Robbie Burns Dinner
Kilts were the colorful trend of the night as local Scottish generations joined to celebrate the 254th birthday of famed Scotsman Robbie Burns, one of the most well known Scottish poet/songwriters of all time. Guests savored a traditional Scottish dinner followed by an entertaining night of poetry and music.
18th Annual Spaghetti Cook-Off
The Bakersfield Lions Club hosted the 18th annual Spaghetti Cook-Off. Friends, family, and charitable locals came together for a night full of laughter, fun games and prizes, and an all you can eat spaghetti dinner. All proceeds from the event benefit the children of the Boys and Girls club.
Energy and Clean Air Business Exposition
The Holiday Inn Select Convention Center hosted the Energy and clean air business exposition. Business leaders and many concerned locals all gathered for an astonishing car crashing demonstration followed by a luncheon and a day full of eye opening information and events.
Black and White Ball
Celebrating 75 years of amazing music, the Bakersfield Symphony’s Black and White Ball boasted a new look and offered a gourmet dinner and dancing to the Ronnie Kay Orchestra. Guests participated in silent and live auctions while toasting to yet another terrific symphony season.
CSUB Casino Night in the Islands
From roulette, craps, and poker, to over 500 silent auction items, this party had it all! The mouthwatering steaks and delicious pies had guests swarming, but it was the chance to win a trip to Hawaii that had everyone bidding. Proceeds from this successful night benefit the CSUB Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund.
Downtown Oscar Night
With full-on Red Carpet treatment, tasty wine, and hors d’oeuvres, downtown was where it was at for a star-studded “Oscar Night” of our own. Generous downtown business owners created and sponsored the event, handing out “Swag Bags” stuffed with goodies to all that attended as a way to highlight our revitalized downtown.
2008 CASA Kick-Off Celebration
The Metro Galleries downtown was full of life and laughter as it hosted the 11th annual CASA Kick-Off event & auction. Guests attending the fund-raising celebration were thrilled to sampled an endless selection of wines, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres as they participated in live & silent auctions, all benefiting CASA’s upcoming year.
Garces Gala
Garces Memorial High School celebrated their 60th anniversary with a Diamond Jubilee. Guests dressed to impress as they gathered for champagne, cocktails, and indulged their pallets in opulent hors d’oeuvres followed by a lavish gourmet dinner and silent and oral auctions. Funds raised go towards financial aid for Garces students in need.
Guild House Wine Tasting
Charitable wine tasters came together for a night of scrumptious fun at the Guild House. Not only were glasses overflowing with local wines and plates covered in delectables, but colorful paintings by local artists were up for sale and for silent auction. All the proceeds went towards the Henrietta Weill Child Guidance Clinic.
Go Red Luncheon
Women (and men) of all ages armed themselves with red to fight heart disease and stroke at the annual Go Red for Women luncheon. A sold-out success for the American Heart Association, survivors and guests shared stories of hope and inspiration, learned about healthy living, and enjoyed a heart-healthy lunch and stunning fashion show.

Art Reception for Bob Gardner
The Arts Council of Kern let the champagne flow to honor local artist Bob Gardner. Guests sipped bubbly and sampled gourmet hors d’oeuvres as they toured the gallery. Patrons had the opportunity to talk to the artist with several of his nationally recognized works available to purchase. The monthly reception promotes local art in Kern County.
Buena Vista Museum Dinner
With awards ceremonies to congratulate volunteers, a silent auction, and raffle prizes, the Buena Vista Museum Dinner Holiday Gala was a ‘bone-afied’ hit! Live holiday music set the mood as guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and wine while celebrating the many dedicated volunteers who keep the museum alive with their support.

Epilepsy Society Dinner
The 53rd annual Candlelight Memories dinner was a great success for the Epilepsy Society of Kern County. Guests at the event enjoyed a gourmet meal and had a great time bidding on the dozens of silent auction gifts, including the Bakersfield Magazine “Lunch Bunch.” The annual event honors residents and businesses that support the Epilepsy Society.
Gleaners USO Party
Time warp back to 1944 America for the Golden Empire Gleaners WWII-themed bash to end hunger in Kern County. Attendees to the event got into the ‘swing’ of things by dressing in period costumes and dancing to big band music. Everyone enjoyed dinner, dancing, and live and silent auctions, with proceeds benefiting the local food pantry.
Holiday Pops
It was a stunning holiday event for the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra as they played the sounds of the season. Local patrons enjoyed the music of the Liberty High School choir, the Bakersfield Winds, and the Orchestra, all with holiday flair. As if that wasn’t enough, local artists also showcased their work before the concert began.
Junior League Wine Fest
A line of eager and generous wine tasters stretched a mile long to enter the annual Junior League’s Wine Fest. The event held food tastings, silent and live auctions, a cigar bar, a lounge for college football, and of course, samples from some of California’s best-loved wineries, all to benefit projects of Junior League.
Teddy Bear Picnic
Cute and cuddly Teddy bears of all shapes and sizes festooned the room for the 12th annual Teddy Bear Picnic Holiday Luncheon. Over 3,500 guests of the event had an exciting time bidding on elaborate Teddy bear-themed gift baskets while enjoying a delicious lunch. Proceeds from the event benefit the Bakersfield City School District Educational Foundation teacher’s grants.
Bakersfield Magazine Holiday Party
Bakersfield Magazine’s staff celebrated the holiday season with a festive office party. The dedicated crew feasted on home-made delicacies, played games, and had a riotous time exchanging gifts. The annual party celebrated the close of an award-winning 2007, and the heralding in of a ground-breaking new year at Bakersfield Magazine!
Artist Reception
Wildlife was brought in doors with the help of Kern River Valley artists who displayed their passion for nature through their drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Guests were greeted by the soothing sound of a guitar and enjoyed a variety of appetizers. This scenic and tasteful reception was held at the Arts Council of Kern.
Ballroom Dancing
The Bakersfield Jazz Orchestra presents “Dancing with our Stars”, two 45 minute ballroom dance classes followed by 3 hours of dancing featuring live music. The classes are structured for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced dancers, which include the west coast swing, east coast swing, waltz, ballad, tango, fox-trot, cha cha, rumba, bolero, mambo, and salsa. This is a great place for singles and couples to meet, greet, and enjoy the night away!
Kern County Medical Society Installation Dinner
With an eye-catching view that overlooked the night lights of the city, The Petroleum Club of Bakersfield hosted the reception for the 2008 KCMS and KCMSA Presidential Inauguration. Guests laughed and mingled as they enjoyed a selection of wines and dined on a delectable three-course meal followed by presentations from both incoming presidents.
Teen Challenge Banquet
Staff, supporters, and past graduates of Teen Challenge, the nonprofit drug rehabilitation program, flooded Bakersfield Christian High School’s auditorium for a special night of generosity and recognition. Guests were treated to tasty, healthy snacks and heart-felt speeches from those involved with the program, proving that Teen Challenge truly has a positive impact on Kern County.
John Fitzpatrick Dinner
Friends and well-wishers of local Vietnam Veteran John Fitzpatrick gathered to enjoy a ‘50s style dinner, raffle, and silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the John Fitzpatrick Kidney Foundation. Fitzpatrick, who is in need of a kidney transplant, was joined by friends and generous citizens who danced to ‘50s music provided by a live DJ.

ARRC Ball
To celebrate their 15th anniversary and induction into Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing, privately-owned businesses in America, ARRC and friends partied the night away, Cirque du Soleil style! Guests were awed by stilt-walkers, plate-spinners, and flashy acrobatics. It was an evening to be remembered!
Boots and Bachelor Auction
While the men folk strutted their stuff the women dug deep into their wallets for the 6th annual Boots and Bachelor Auction. The ladies filled the Crystal Palace to capacity all to benefit the children of the Bakersfield Homeless Center. Dinner, silent auction goodies, and of course the live bidding raised $110,000.
CASA Golf Classic
“Tee-ing” up for a good time and a great cause, 34 local teams hit the links to support local children. The 11th annual CASA Golf Classic boasted games and prizes throughout the beautiful sunny day. Capping off the day ‘on the green’ was an awards ceremony and dinner. Guests and golfers had a ‘hole’ lot of fun.
Evening Under the Stars
Valley Achievement Center hosted the 2nd annual Evening Under the Stars event, putting a deserving spotlight on Autism awareness. Guests to the formal dinner and dance affair had the chance to bid on luxury items and savor a gourmet meal. The event raised $18,000 to benefit local children and adults living with Autism.
Garden Pathways High Tea
Changing the future one child, one family at a time, five local women were honored recently at the Garden Pathways High Tea. The 5th annual event honors “Women with a Heart for Bakersfield”, in their mentoring and lasting investment to make our community stronger. The High Tea and Silent Auction raised funds to support local training programs.
Roadrunner Golf Tournament
It was a fun opportunity to ‘swing’ into a great cause. Golfers at the 33rd annual CSUB Roadrunner Golf Tournament enjoyed good food, prizes and 18 holes of pristine greens to raise money for CSUB student Athletics. The exciting day long tournament was capped off with a gala awards banquet.
CSUB Fall Barbecue
There was a whole lotta’ shakin’ going on at the 29th annual CSUB Fall barbecue. Viva Las Vegas was the theme with Elvis and the Rat Pack showing up to sample the sizzling barbecue dinner. Locals packed the gym and danced to the live band all in support of Roadrunner Athletics.
Garces BBQ
The quad was awash in green and white for the annual Garces Fall barbecue. Gary Icardo and crew provided the succulent steak dinner. Guests, alumni and faculty enjoyed the student band and mingled under the stars, commemorating 60 years of the educational institution. The popular event benefits the Garces athletic programs.
Kern Film Festival
Move over Cannes and Sundance, Kern County has a film festival that makes the ‘cut’. Guests and filmmakers of the Kern Projections Film Festival joined for a celebration ‘wrap-up’ awards dinner. The artists enjoyed a gourmet dinner and reveled in independent films, surrounded by beautiful works of art at the Metro Galleries.
Links for Life
Pink was the color of choice as sisters, mothers, daughters, and friends, all came out to support breast cancer awareness month. Links for Life held their 10th annual lunch and fashion show that raised $10,000 to fight breast cancer. Guests to the sold-out event enjoyed a gourmet lunch, fashion show, boutique shopping, and breast cancer information.
“Friendship in Bloom”
The lovely ladies of the Association of Petroleum Wives captivating at their annual awards gala and fashion show held at Seven Oaks Country Club. With flowers abound and smiles galore this event was truly as sweet as the bouquets adorning every table. Definitely one for the books.
Cattle Baron’s Ball
Guests ‘saddled up’ to make a difference in the fight to end cancer at the annual Cattle Baron’s Ball. Folks gussied up in their western wear to enjoy live entertainment, gourmet dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions, including the Lunch Bunch, casino play, and pig races. The annual event is sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

Fun In The Sun Car Show
It was a stroll down memory lane as The Vintage LTD Car Club of Bakersfield held their 27th annual car show at the Kern County Museum. Roadsters, trucks, and hot-rods dominated the grounds with bright paint-jobs and powerful engines. The pre-1959 cars were a sight to behold as the attendees took in the fun and nostalgia.
Art Fest
Local artists showcased their talent at the 7th annual Art Fest to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Bakersfield. Guests dined on local restaurant delicacies, sampled various spirits, and got up close and personal with the artists on hand. The oral and silent auction helped raise $121,000 for local children’s art programs.

Jazz at the Nile
Music lovers united to share tasty drinks, an electric atmosphere, and great tunes when they attended Jazz at The Nile. The event, hosted by Darren Gholston, brought out the best in Bakersfield as people awaited the soulful melodies by chatting with local musicians who arrived to participate in a rousing, stylish, summer evening of good jazz and good company.
Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce Summer Social
Play ball! The annual Summer Social featuring a sports theme for this years event delivered a slam dunk for local business. It was a fun and fantastic opportunity to socialize after hours and network with other local businesses. Guests mingled under the stars, enjoyed live music and savored a great barbecue dinner.
”Night Out Against Crime”
The Bakersfield Police Department was out in “full force” as the annual “Night Out Against Crime” took place at River Walk Park. The beautiful summer evening was packed with demonstrations by the local Fire Department, SWAT team, and Bomb Squad. As well as with plenty of the community to enjoy the festivities!
Bako Bike and Hot Rod Show
Local Motorcycle and Hot Rod enthusiasts revved up their engines to raise money for the Kern County Veteran's Memorial. The crowds checked out the unique custom cars and bikes from choppers to monster trucks on the grounds of the Kern County Museum. There was a motorcycle poker run, a raffle and good old fashioned barbecue at the event.
Valentines “Bastille Day”
Can-Can dancers, live music, costumed servers and of course great food greeted guests for the Bastille celebration at Valentine's Restaurant. Bastille day is heralded as the beginning of French independence and celebrated the world over since 1789. Patrons to the event dined on French delicacies and champagne.
Kern County Museum “Day at the Beach”
Local students and families had a wild time at “Summer Fun Day” at the Kern County Museum. The grounds were “saturated” by kids of all ages to learn about water and all the wonderful things this essential substance provides to us. Booths, bounce houses, crafts, water slides and barbecue made this event a soggy good time.
Guild House Tea
The days of summer are over and that means the Guild House is open again for lunch! With drinks and scrumptious goodies the volunteers at this historic house held a welcome back high tea. Always looking to recruit new ladies and gents the Guild House volunteers expect another banner season all to benefit the Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic.
Operation Back-to-School
Volunteers and coordinators for Bakersfield's Jesus Shack were thrilled to distribute 1700 fully-loaded backpacks to underprivileged Kern county kiddos. Everyone was raring to get back to school with all their academic goodies including notebooks, pencils, books and clothes. The summer sun was a perfect companion to this already bright event.
State of the City Luncheon
Boasting the incredible strides Bakersfield has made in the last year the State of the City lunch was a roaring success. Local movers and shakers converged to the sold out event to hear about the exciting goals to come. Local dignitaries gave a glimpse at the direction our city is headed while guests savored their gourmet meal.
Brews in the Village
It was a blowout extravaganza at the annual Brews in the Village. Guests at the sold out event toured the grounds of the Kern County Museum listening to live bands, sampled local restaurant delicacies, and tried various spirits from around the country. Sponsored by Children's Advocates Resource Endowment all proceeds go to benefit local children's charities.
Evening of Wine and Roses
With smiles abound, and the Rose Queen was in good company at this year's Evening of Wine and Roses, the annual celebration to kick off Wasco's Festival of Roses. Blossoming with an art exhibit by Gita Lloyd, live music, and good wine, this year's event was brimming with class and sophistication.
John Brock Awards Dinner
It was a night for local movers and shakers to honor one of their own. Greg D. Bynum was the honoree for his excellence in commerce and community spirit at the annual John Brock Awards Dinner. The event promotes the CSUB School of Business and Public Administration and helps to raise money for student endowments.
CALM BBQ & Ice Cream Social
Members and guests came out to meet the new bear at CALM with their annual end-of-the-summer feast. Visitors dined among the stars while listening to a live jazz trio and demonstrations about local wildlife. The social is a popular fundraiser for California Living Museum and shows their appreciation for our generous community.
Greek Food Festival
The 34th annual Greek Festival was a roaring success for the St. George Orthodox Church. Hundreds of locals danced to live music, savored traditional Greek goodies and perused the open marketplace stocked with all kinds of Greek objects. The annual event is a chance to educate the public on Greece and it's culture.
Medical Society Garden Party
Beautiful weather, delicious food and vibrant guests made the Kern County Medical Society's Garden Party a roaring success. Guests were free to mingle and check out the dozens of luxury items up for bid, before sitting down to their gourmet meal. Monies raised at the party go towards local nursing scholarships and children's charities.
BC Alumni BBQ
With school colors flying, past graduates and current students assembled for the 53rd annual Bakersfield College Alumni barbecue. As the stars came out guests dinned on a delicious dinner with all the trimmings. The faculty and fall sports teams were on hand to celebrate a new season, while the cheer squad entertained the crowds of faithful Renegades.
Senior Olympics
Hundreds of eager and active senior citizens proved that there is no age limit on sportsmanship. Competing in everything from volleyball, bowling, basketball and a wheelchair relay everyone attending had a great time. Mayor Hall joyfully kicked off the event with a torch lighting ceremony. The yearly event is sponsored by the Kern County Activities Directors Association.
Tuscany at Twilight
Hundreds of guests gathered for a sumptious Italian feast without leaving the country. Chef Pat Coyle paired a five course meal with exquisite Italian wines for a Tuscany experience. Guests dined, danced and had a chance to win various luxury raffle prizes. The dinner was sponsored by the Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary to benefit the Jamison Center.

CASA “Titanic” Party
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) hosted an evening reenacting the last few hours before the Titanic sank. The event recreated seven of the eleven courses served that night and paired them with the perfect wine. The money raised goes to help the children of Kern County.
CALM Birthday
California Living Museum celebrated 24 years as the premier residence for animals not able to live in the wild. Guests were entertained with games, train rides and wildlife presentations along with a raffle and barbecue lunch. The day long event kept the crowds entertained and educated.
Evening at the Races
And they’re off...to support a good cause. Equine lovers joined with MARE for a night of fun and fundraising. Guests dined on gourmet goodies, placed their bets on the horse races and the live auction had them bidding through the night. The annual event raises funds for the local Mastering Abilities Riding Equines.
Baker Hughes Golf Tournament
Thirty four teams took to the greens to benefit the Bakersfield Association of Retarded Citizens at the seventh annual Baker Hughes Golf Classic. Participants in this sold out event tested their skill at prize holes, putting competitions and all around best score. The event was topped off with a dinner and awards ceremony.
Concerts in the Park
Music lovers lounged on blankets and chairs and enjoyed music under the stars as the 54th annual Concerts in the Park series kicked off at Beale Park. This free 5 week concert series was sponsored by the Bakersfield Recreation and Parks Department and the Bakersfield Symphony.
Guys Cooking
Fire up the barbecues and grab the fire extinguisher, the men are cooking. The annual Guys Cooking was a sizzling success for the Bakersfield Museum of Art. Guests to this sold out event enjoyed the mai tai bar, live music and luxury items up for auction. Proceeds from the event goes to promote art in Bakersfield.
B-Town Blues Festival
The 3rd annual B-Town Blues Festival shook the crowds at the CSUB Amphitheater as party goers swayed and grooved to the music while feasting on succulent barbecue and frosty drinks. The proceeds from the event are donated to the Houchin Blood Bank bone marrow program.
Beautiful Bakersfield Awards
It was a great evening to honor residents, groups and businesses who strive to make Bakersfield a great place to live. Nominees and guests celebrated the gala event with a gourmet meal and awards ceremony. The annual event is sponsored by the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce.
CSUB Party in the Park
Local wine aficionados filled the gardens of CSUB for the 11th annual Party in the Park. Guests toured the tents and savored the hors d’ oeuvres and wine while checking out dozens of auction items. Funds from the annual wine tasting event and auction benefit the CSUB Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment.
Bit O’ Heaven Ranch
The annual Bit O’ Heaven Horse Ranch welcomed guests to their open house with a good ol’ western barbecue. The ranch provides a loving, healthy and productive place where horses can be taken care of when they are abandoned or abused. All proceeds from the event to go care for the aging equines.
River Rock
The river was rocking for youth at the 4th annual Music by the River fundraiser. Guests enjoyed live entertainment, great raffle prizes and mouth watering mesquite grilled barbecue dinner. All proceeds from this event helps to support prevention and intervention programs for at-risk youth in our community.
Standing Bear Pow Wow
Hundreds of people gathered at the Bakersfield College campus to celebrate Native culture at the annual Standing Bear Pow Wow. Authentic food and lectures along with dance performances kept the crowds entertained. The event is sponsored by the Native American Heritage Preservation Council of Kern County.
Weill Child Guidance Golf Tournament
Hundreds of golfers tee’d up for local children at the 10th annual Weill Child Guidance Golf Tournament. Golfers had a chance to try for luxury hole-in-one prizes and silent auction items. All proceeds from this successful event goes to assisting the Weill clinics various programs.
Touchstone Open House
Touchstone Real Estate Group showcased their own “open house” with the grand opening of their new office. Tours were given of the spacious new business that houses the entire Touchstone network. The group welcomed their neighbors and guests with drinks and appetizers, while the band rocked the day into night.
USC Alumni Dinner
Former All American football star and USC alumni Brandon Hancock was the guest of honor at the Kern County Alumni Club dinner. Luigi’s Restaurant hosted this year’s dinner. The group is dedicated to preserving all things crimson and gold, with proceeds supporting scholarships for local teens accepted to USC.
Arts Council of Kern
The Arts Council of Kern celebrated 30 years of promoting the arts in Bakersfield with an elegant fete at the CSUB Todd Madigan Gallery. Patrons savored divine desserts and wine along with live jazz entertainment and special art exhibit. Proceeds from the event goes to support local art and music.
Rocking the Museum
It was a great night to enjoy the arts and socialize at the Bakersfield Museum of Art for “First Thursday”, so called as the event is held the first Thursday of the month. This year long program allows locals to unwind from the work day, enjoying the art exhibits, sounds of local bands and delicious appetizers.
Wine Fest
In vino veritas—the wine was true indeed at Kern County Museum ‘s Wine Fest. Lovers of the spirit mingled on the lawns sampling over 18 visiting wineries and the best delicacies local restaurants have to offer. The evening was in support of local culture and history. Proceeds benefitted the Kern County Museum Foundation.

CSUB Alumni Gala
The CSUB Alumni Association held it’s first induction of the CSUB Alumni Hall of Fame. This was a beautiful night to honor past graduates of the university who had made significant achievements in their respective careers. The Grand Ballroom of the Seven Oaks Country Club hosted this elegant formal black and white ball.
MS Walk
Taking steps to fight Multiple Sclerosis. The annual MS Walk in Bakersfield was a huge fundraising success. Hundreds of volunteers and walkers descended on Yokuts Park and the bike path to make a difference. The daylong event was to celebrate the fight and raise awareness of MS.
Safari Club
Members of the local chapter of Safari Club International gathered to eat and swap stories at its annual recognition dinner. Outfitters from around the globe were also present, looking to draw the interest of Kern’s finest hunters and adventurers.
Cioppino Feed
The Bakersfield West Rotary really knows how to put on a fundraising event as was evidenced by their 14th annual seafood feast benefiting the Bakersfield Boys & girls club. Attendee’s enjoyed a scrumptious array of seafood, along with the opportunity to bid on trips and gifts auctioned throughout the evening.
Economic Summit
Who needs Wheaties when you have breakfast and economics? The annual economic summit was a great opportunity for local businesses to see first hand the direction in which Kern County is headed. The informative and entertaining speakers showed the sold out crowd just how great it is to live in Kern County.

The best of Bakersfield business took center stage at the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce after hour’s mixer. Members and guests meandered through the maze of commerce booths with a fun and friendly feel. Hundreds of attendee’s had a great opportunity to see what Bakersfield business has to offer.
First Ladies of America
Celebrating past and current First Ladies of the United States, the Bakersfield Republican Women Federated members enjoyed lunch and fellowship as they watched a parade of models impersonate various great ladies of State. The monthly meetings are held to discuss Republican issues of both local and national importance.
CTB Turns Forty!
Mayor Harvey Hall and other dignitaries, friends, business associates and employees gathered at The Commercial Trade Bureau headquarters to celebrate the firms 40th Anniversary. The day was also designated by Mayor Hall as Carol Moss Day in Bakersfield, in recognition of the firm’s outstanding work in the community.
Scottish Games
The annual Highland Games and Gathering at Stramler Park let you immerse yourself in all things Scottish. This one-day extravaganza of bagpipes, food, games, weapons, dancing and costumes of the Scots is heralded yearly by the Kern County Scottish Society.
Asthma Walk
Walkers of every shape and size took over Yokuts Park to “blow the whistle” on Asthma by bringing awareness for those suffering from this devastating illness. This was the fourth year for this signature fundraiser, with walkers and their supporters raising funds for local children and their families affected by the disease.
Quad Knopf Open House
Quad Knopf Engineering let the business community “see the light” at their open house celebration. Armed with strobe and laser lights the futuristic themed event had everyone in attendance looking to the future. Guests toured the new facility, sampled delicious appetizers, and saw first hand the future of engineering.
Bakersfield Women's Business Conference
Women on the march! Hundreds of women armed themselves with the power of business by attending the 18th Annual Women's Business Conference. The event was filled to capacity for the day long event of seminars and break-out sessions. Lunch was capped of by highly acclaimed keynote speaker Nancy G. Brinker, the founder of the Susan G. Koman cancer center.

The Kern Adult Literacy Council held it's annual Read for Life Gala at the Bakersfield Art Museum where Bart Hill was honored for his time and dedication to literacy and the community. St. Francis BBQ
The salsa band played, Icardo steaks sizzled and very charitable guests soaked up the fun, fellowship and margaritas that were truly frothy concoctions. That's the way it was at the St. Francis Church 6th annual BBQ for the benefit of not one or two, but 64 local charities.
Celebrate CSUB!
It was an exciting day for the community to explore the open CSUB campus. Booths lined the main walkways educating, entertaining and feeding the swelling crowds. Alumni visited at the garden reception, kids had a blast at the carnival and everyone loved the lab tours. The jamboree was an invitation for guests to discover all the hidden gems our local university has to offer.
Relay for Life BBQ
The world famous Halliburton grill was there, the band was playing, the drinks were flowing. Not a bad way to raise money to fight a disease. Team Fugitives hosted the Relay for Life fund raiser in the Emporium Western parking lot. There were dozens of raffle prizes and a grand prize barbecue grill.
Seven Oaks Cook Off
The Grotto of Seven Oaks Country Club was transformed into “Kitchen Stadium” for the annual Iron Chef style cook off. Teams were in a cooking frenzy of good fun to see who would win the honor and the grand prize steak knives. Guests in attendance watched the excitement and were rewarded with the delicious meal.
BHS Hall of Fame Dinner
The second annual BHS Hall of Fame was a great night for high school football and local history. Local residents and NFL giants came together to celebrate the newest inductees. Football great and hall of fame inductee Frank Gifford wowed the crowed with stories of his days in the NFL and of playing for the Drillers at Griffith field.
Mize Agency Open House
The Mize Agency took their advertising services to a new level with the grand opening of their Spanish division. Guests mingled and enjoyed a fiesta of delicious Spanish themed delicacies and funky margaritas. Keeping with the company colors and the theme of the evening, the chic event was decorated in Black, White and Red.
OLPH BBQ
Patrons of the ever popular Our Lady of Perpetual Help annual barbecue mingled under a giant tent as live entertainment serenaded the hungry guests. Gary Icardo and crew worked their magic on the grill, with steaks cooked to perfection. The annual event raises money for the local parish education foundation.

Scoring a goal for the Kern County Shrine Club, Condor hockey players and coaches took off their skates and donned aprons instead. The annual event is one of the biggest and most anticipated fundraisers by Condor players. Guests were served by their favorite players and had a chance to bid on local sports memorabilia.
Robert Burns Supper
Bring on the Haggis! The 36th annual celebration of “Rabbie” Burns’ birthday was heralded by the Kern County Scottish Society. The banquet hall at Hodel’s was awash with tartans, kilts and good yule! The single malt whiskey flowed as a bagpiper serenaded the beloved haggis around the room.
Liquid Art
Bakersfield Wine Society members were treated to an evening of “liquid art” with winemaker Chuck Ortman, considered one of California’s most accomplished vintners. Guests were sated with a six-course meal and several Ortman wines were served with the magnificent feast.
Stirring Up Business
The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce threw a lively after-hours mixer for local business leaders at The Corky McMillin Company’s master design center. Guests munched on appetizers and talked business and innovation while touring the new Olive Drive building.
Place Your Bets!
Patrons grabbed their wallets and rolled the dice for an evening of good food and great entertainment at the CSUB Casino Night. Guests mingled among the roulette wheels and blackjack tables while bidding on over 500 items in the silent and live auction. Money from the popular event went to scholarships for student athletes.
Daddy-Daughter Date Night
The Epilepsy Society’s first Daddy-Daughter Date Night went off without a hitch: Everyone dressed their best, and some dads found themselves with more than one date. Finger foods and a deejay helped set the festive mood, but the good feelings were mostly due to the special bond between father and daughter.

Cal State Bakersfield athletes, boosters and partners converged upon the gilded halls of Seven Oaks Country Club to celebrate the successful fundraising drive to bring Division 1 athletics to Roadrunner country. Go Red for Women Luncheon & Expo
Blood Pressure? Check. Cholesterol? Check. Heart Disease? Hundreds of ladies spent the day wearing red and arming themselves with knowledge aimed at improving their health. From cooking demonstrations to shared stories of struggle and triumph, the sold-out event put on by the American Heart Association showed attendees that the “beat” does indeed go on. Check!
Keeping Kids on Track
Gourmet hors d’oeuvres and classical guitar music provided the perfect backbeat for the first-ever Weill Child Guidance Center Foundation’s wine tasting fundraiser. Local wine distributor Pierre Freeman provided varietals from the Livermore, Sonoma and Napa regions while the Guild House provided vintage atmosphere.
CASA Celebrations
An art auction was the main attraction, but the cause celeb was the 10th year of fundraising for the Court Appointed Special Advocates volunteer group that helps local kids. Items auctioned included a custom playhouse and baseball-themed chairs crafted by local artisans.

The Bakersfield Black Chamber of Commerce threw a gala and reception to honor Chris Gardener, whose journey to success was recently chronicled in the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness,” starring Will Smith.
Heart Gallery
All kids need a permanent, loving home — even big kids. With the hopes of finding adoptive families for older children in foster care, a traveling display of professional photographs of kids looking for families was kicked off at the Junior League’s downtown home with a wine and cheese reception and some of the potential adoptees in attendance.
Year of the Golden Pig
The colorful lion reared its giant head and stamped its feet as the traditional Chinese dance kicked off the Chinese American Association of Kern County’s annual New Year celebration. Song and dance and delicious food rounded out the family affair.
Symphony Black & White Ball
Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra supporters donned their formal best to raise money and recognize the efforts of Bakersfield’s most musically inclined. The black tie event was well-attended by local VIPs and music lovers.
Kern COG Awards
With more honorees than you could shake a stick at, the Kern Council of Government’s annual award of merit ceremonies was a wonderful way to celebrate organizations and individuals who strive to improve the quality of life in Kern County.
Cultures Abroad
Cuisine of India, Mexico, France, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Italy, Sweden, Russia, Japan, and other countries was served at the CSUB International Club dinner to showcase the different cultures of students from around the world who attend the university. A traditional Japanese tea ceremony and the “Cumbia del Caribe” dance entertained the young crowd.
Partnership Party
Bakersfield tourism took a big step toward working with local chambers and other organizations at the Partnership Party sponsored by the Bakersfield Convention & Visitors Bureau. Held at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, guests heard plans to grow our local economy, and gift baskets were raffled off to benefit the Boys & Girls Club.
Winter Social
Local seniors grabbed their partners and tripped the light fantastic to the musical stylings of the Ken Bausano Quartet. Guests waltzed around the room, had photos taken and enjoyed a gourmet dinner at the free event sponsored by Bakersfield Family Medical Center, Heritage Physicians Network and Aetna Golden Medicare.

Toys for Tots got a helping hand and Bakersfield’s bravest athletes received a coating of mud at the United States Marine Corps’ annual Volkslauf Challenge. The 10K race combines 75 obstacles with eight million gallons of water for a challenging way to raise money to provide gifts for local kids in need.
Heart Walk
It was a human traffic jam along the bike path at Beach Park as 1,100 people touched by heart ailments topped off their efforts to raise $180,000 and awareness of the deadly disease that claims the life of more people in Kern than any other.
Order in the Court
Bakersfield’s legal eagles from Young and Wooldridge and their loyal clients got together to enjoy a Santa Maria-style BBQ and a view of our city from a lofty perch: the balconies that encircle the local firm’s top-floor offices. Jazz bands provided the soundtrack for the evening’s festivities.
Lest we Forget
The Amtrak Station in downtown Bakersfield served as an elegant ballroom for an event recognizing those involved in the effort to create a memorial for Korean War veterans. Attendees, including veterans recently returned from Iraq, enjoyed a delicious dinner as well as a patriotic rendering of colors by the Sons of the American Revolution.
Knowledge of the Natives
No need to circle the wagons, this party was for everyone! Friends of the Buena Vista Museum partied and pow-wowed to celebrate the unveiling of its newest exhibit, “Yokuts Village.” Great pains were taken to make the exhibit authentic and the party was a rousing success.
Crude-ites Come Together
Petroleum industry leaders swapped oily jeans and hard hats for tuxedos, ball gowns and limousines to network at the annual Oil Baron’s Ball. Many out-of-town guests made the trip for a chance to party with Bakersfield’s captains of crude.
Fashionista’s Fall Fashion Show
Guests dined on gourmet delights and sipped champagne while viewing the latest fall fashions and accessories from Tangerine and other local stores at the beautiful home of Nancy Wheeler-Smith. Fun party favors were provided for guests of the CASA fundraiser.

Kern County Boy Scouts pushed their luck — and each other — at the 2006 Pushcar Races held at Olive Drive Church. Parents, friends and volunteers braved the morning chill to root on their Webelos and Cub Scouts as they raced handmade carts for prizes and fun.

Bakersfield was treated to a triple-crown competition of beauty at the 2007 Teen, Miss, and Mrs. Bakersfield Pageant. The Stockdale High School Auditorium was filled with admirers of the aesthetic and past winners alike. The 2006 winners were on hand to pass on the crowns and sashes and enjoy the last hours of their reign.

Local physicians and healthcare providers gathered to pat their colleagues on the back at the Kern Medical Society’s Annual Awards Banquet. Dr. Shepard Palitz received the Outstanding Contribution to the Medical Society Award while Dr. Augustine Munoz walked away with honors for Outstanding Contributions to the Community.
Top Docs Take The Night Off
The Sankosa Collective and New Spirit Women’s Group hosted Bakersfield’s 16th annual Kwanzaa celebration at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. The Olinyanko Drum and Dance Ensemble entertained with African style percussion and brass instruments and interpretive dancers in traditional garb moved to the enchanting music.
OddBalls Out for a Good Cause
A motley crew of city and county officials and local residents joined up with the OddBall Angler for a blood and bone marrow drive to benefit Houchin Blood Bank. OddBall Terry Greenwaldt taped a segment for his family fishing show and Houchin gained 37 blood donations and 17 first-time donors.

It was a boot-scootin’ good time at the Bachelor Auction to benefit the Bakersfield Homeless Center. Local bachelors trotted to the stage and the women went wild trying to rope them in with a winning bid. The ultimate girls-night-out event was a record-breaker, raising more than $120,000.
CASA Fall Home Tours
Guests toured three breathtaking homes decorated by the House of Moseley during this annual event to raise money to train CASA volunteers in Kern County.
Charity Golf Tournament for Heart Health
Bakersfield Family Medical Center and Heritage Physicians Network hosted the first-ever golf tournament to benefit the American Heart Association. Thirty-two men and women tried for a hole-in-one that would have won a luxurious Mercedes Benz C230.
Business and Pleasure — Mixed!
The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce created a Mexican Riviera hot spot right here in Bakersfield for its annual Fall Fiesta. Members and guests mingled while sampling Mexican food and beverages at this social forum that showcases products and services of local business owners.

Gary Icardo and crew provided the succulent steaks and all the fixin’s but the Garces Alumni provided the party atmosphere. The school campus was awash in green and white for the annual Fall Barbecue benefiting Garces athletic programs.

Follow the white rabbit down the path to a good cause, CASA of Kern County, of course! The historic Guild House was filled with food and fun for this Alice in Wonderland-themed murder mystery event to benefit local children who are wards of the court.
Sugar and Milk?
An elegant and proper high tea plus a fashion show ushered in the annual general meeting of the Kern County Medical Society. The society’s emphasis this year will be on raising awareness of childhood obesity and conflict resolution among kids. Local boutiques provided clothes for the fashion show, and dancers from Bakersfield Regional Ballet entertained.
We Love America!
With a gigantic American Flag suspended from the ladder of a local fire truck, music and America lovers ascended to the Park at River Walk for an evening of patriotic entertainment. Conducted by the talented John Farrer, the Symphony Orchestra and Liberty High School Choir enchanted the audience with popular Sousa marches and rousing military songs.
Barstool Education
Bakersfield’s good-time brewery, Lengthwise, hosted a brew-tasting party to benefit Kern County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program. The party began with a sampling of Silo Starters and Jeff Williams, president of Lengthwise, filled guests in on the different types of ales and stouts. After dinner, brew master Darin Schwicker gave a guided tour of the secret production process.
Rodders United
The NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion overpowered the streets of Bakersfield with a revved-up VIP welcome party. Rodders in vintage rides came from all over the western United States to celebrate the weekend’s 15th annual event at Famoso Raceway north of town.
CSUB BBQ
The Icardo Center was resplendent in gold and blue bunting, Thee Majestics performed, and the Icardos presented their signature steak and chicken for the hungry crowd at the CSUB Fall Barbecue. The weather was lovely, food was delicious and guests were vivacious at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital’s 50th Anniversary Gala. B-Town Blues Fest
Local residents kicked back on blankets, ate barbecue and soaked up the blues at the second annual B-Town Blues Fest at the CSUB amphitheater. Proceeds from the day-long event went to Houchin Blood Bank’s bone marrow drive.

The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce presented the 2006 Beautiful Bakersfield Awards to honor local organizations, individuals and businesses whose outstanding efforts in the past year enhanced our community. Categories ranged from architecture to humanitarian.

State of the City Luncheon
The State of the City Luncheon was an opportunity to hear Mayor Hall’s update on growth and prosperity in the coming year, with details on future projects and improvements. The event was sponsored by the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce.

Participants in the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life ruled the fields at Cal State Bakersfield as local residents of all ages took to the track to walk for a cure.
BARC Benefit Golf Tourney
Thirty-six teams teed up to benefit the Bakersfield Association for Retarded Citizens at the sixth annual Baker Hughes Golf Classic. Golfers tried their luck at winning a 2006 Lexus with a hole-in-one. The event was topped off by a Polynesian buffet, and local favorite Mento Buru rocked participants into the night.
Birthday Fun Under the Sun
Children scampered from event to event learning about our local ecosystem and native plants and animals at the California Living Museum’s 23rd birthday celebration.
