Tips for a Healthier, Happier You

We all want to look good, be happy, and stay healthy. Here are four ways you can do it.

Take Care of Your Hair

Few people really know where the expression “your hair is your crowning glory” comes from. But everybody can agree that it is true, especially for a woman. There are several reasons for this.

First, when people look at you, one of the first things they focus on is your hair. Second, great hair is said to boost confidence and self-esteem. No wonder why many people spend thousands of dollars on hair treatments and hair restoration procedures every year. Finally, the hair on a woman’s head symbolizes health, femininity, and even wealth.

As such, one of the best things you can do is take care of it. Aside from using the right shampoo and conditioner either daily or every other day, it is also important to be mindful of the hair tools you buy. Whether it is a hairdryer, a ceramic straightening brush, a flat iron, or a curling wand, make sure it is durable, of the best quality, and won’t cause more long-term damage than good. Remember, you want to look great in the years to come, not only today.

It Starts From Within

There is an old joke that tells the story of a man who had many bills but few coins. Needing a couple of quarters to buy himself a drink, he stopped another man walking and politely asked him for some change. Not having any, or perhaps not wanting to give away his dimes and nickles, the man replied, “I’m sorry, sir, but I can’t give you any change. As you know, change comes from within.”

The same is true for your body, your face, and your health. While certain beauty products will give you a youthful complexion and make your face brighter and fresher, there is a limit to what creams, moisturizers, and serums can do. If what you desire is perfect skin, it will serve you much better to stay hydrated, keep away from the sun, and eat the right foods. Changing your water intake and your eating habits will make you a healthier person and reflect on your exterior.

As for your body, you can do five hundred push-ups, planks, squats, and sit-ups every day, but if you don’t compliment this with the proper diet, one packed with nutrition, it will simply be a waste of your energy and time.

Get Enough Sleep

When it comes to sleep, there is a long list of opinions based on whom you ask. Legend tells that Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk sleeps only five hours per night. In several interviews, he has said that if he were to sleep a shorter amount of time, his productivity, thinking ability, and business acumen would decrease. On the other hand, four-time professional basketball world champion Lebron James, considered by many as the greatest player who’s ever lived, gets at least 11 to 12 hours of nap time daily. In his opinion, this length allows his body to recover from the grueling physical and mental stresses of playing basketball at the highest level.

Whether you follow the former or the latter is up to you. No matter what doctors and pundits say, you know your body better than anybody else. Not only that, but it is you who gets to make the call on how much time you sleep. Still, if you start to notice unwarranted changes in your mood, you are more exhausted than usual, there is a spike in your blood pressure, or you are struggling with anxiety and depression, chances are you need a longer time and a better night’s rest.

Surrender What You Can

Some things in life you can control. You can choose what toothpaste to buy, what to do on most weekends, and who to date and eventually marry. But others you can’t, no matter how hard you try. You can influence people, but their decisions will be their own at the end of the day. You can plan the best outdoor party in history, but bad weather can spoil it for you at the last minute.

Yet, many of us try to micromanage every single aspect of our lives. And when we are unable to do so, we become frustrated and disappointed. Even worse, we oftentimes let anxiety take the reins and then have to deal with the consequences.

If you are a religious person or know someone who is, you might have heard of the peace of mind and tranquility that comes with surrendering your worries to God. But even if you aren’t, keep in mind that it’s not about being reckless and irresponsible. Rather, it’s about doing your best and letting the chips fall where they may.

As we have seen, there are four great ways to improve your life. By following them, you will not only look and feel better but also be happier and healthier.
